Early Evening by Claudette Gamache

The Pastel Painters of Maine (PPOM) was established in 1999 by a group of artists interested in promoting the medium of soft pastel by uniting local and regional artists and by increasing the public's awareness of the medium. We have pastel exhibitions and workshops, monthly meetings and programs, bi-monthly newsletters, plein air paint-outs, painting from models, and the sharing of general camaraderie.

PPOM has grown to more than 160 members from throughout Maine as well as the New England and East Coast states. Our International Juried Exhibition "For Pastels Only" has been held yearly since 2000. In conjunction with the annual juried exhibition, PPOM offers a workshop conducted by the judge, a nationally-known pastel artist. In addition, we hold annual non-juried member shows.

PPOM meets the third Thursday of the month (except June, July, August and December) at the Warren Memorial Library, 479 Main Street, Westbrook, Maine. We have a short business meeting followed by a program with a speaker, film, painting demonstration or critique. Members often paint together after the meetings.

Please send your PPOM newsletter items to Mary Barrett, Editor at jinspec@netzero.net or 207-874-0913.
